This was the only assignment that required a digital camera. Our assignment was to take pictures of an object in pieces and then print them out on photographic paper. Then, we arranged them on a piece of mat board to create a collage. Pictures taken from different angles, perspectives and distances created interesting effects. I used the upright piano in my house as the subject of this collage. Unfortunately, we were having problems with the press that day so there are some spots on the collage where the paper in the press stuck to the pictures. It still turned out decently, though.
This blog was created for my Photography class at Western Albemarle High School.

High Contrast
This roll required us to take pictures that create high contrast, such as areas with bright sunlight or direct light sources to create sharp and defined shadows. To make prints, we learned a new technique known as solarization which involve re-exposing the paper while it's still in the developer. This only works with pictures with high contrast.
These pictures, in my opinion, turned out to be the least interesting of any roll I've taken so far. I tried it with five different pictures, but none of the turned out quite as interesting as I originally expected.

Hands and Feet
This roll focused on interesting composition using hands and feet. We were also focusing on the Rule of Thirds. The Crozet Arts & Crafts Fair was taking place that weekend, so I decided to take my camera and look for some good shots.
This first picture was taken while I was waiting with the WAHS Jazz Band to get onstage. We were playing a set as part of the festival. My friend, Dave, set himself up to be a good example of hands and feet.
My friend, Mona, was also at the fair with her camera. We both decided to take the classic "picture of someone taking a picture" shot. This is my favorite shot off this roll. I still don't know why she hasn't developed the one she took of me.

Creativity with Depth of Field
This is a example of a shorter depth of field. The tree branch and the leaves are in focus while the background is blurred.
This picture was taken next to my house. For this picture, I used a small aperature to get a very long depth of field so everything would be in focus.
This picture has the shortest depth of field out of all of my pictures. It was shot inside so I used the largest aperature possible on my camera (1.7, which is slightly larger than most of the other cameras at the school). Only the flowers are completely in focus. The top of the vase is slightly blurred while the bottom is even more out of focus. The background is completely blurred.

Fun with Shutter Speed
This roll was assigned at the same time I had a cross country meet at Maymont in Richmond. The purpose fit so well I decided to haul my camera and a tripod to Richmond along with my cross country uniform, running shoes and spikes. Part of the assignment was to take some pictures with blurred motion and some with frozen action.
Leading Lines
Our next assignement was a focus on leading lines, or lines that lead the eye towards either the subject or a specific point in the picture.
I found leading lines in this picture of my cat lying on our front porch.

This picture was taken from the top of my driveway.
This picture was an accident bu turned out to be my favorite print that I developed from this roll. I was in the car with my mom driving to the grocery store and as we passed the train bridge in the middle of Crozet, I took out my camera and shot this picture.

Framing
Our next assignement was to take a roll of pictures with a frame around the subject. I found that the framework of my front porch worked well for this roll.
Perspective and Architecture
For the Perspective and Architecture roll, I went to Staunton and took pictures of the buildings in the area. This picture was taken on the corner of a street where there was a building with a cylindrical corner and a clock on the top.

Scavenger Hunt
Our first assignment was a scavenger hunt where we took pictures of the things we were looking for around the school. Then we developed our film and made on print from our half of the roll. This print is an arrangement of leaves and mulch.

This is the first project that we made in Photography. It is a photogram made with shells, a pizza cutter, a corkscrew, lace, stencils and a water bottle.
